Jan Stiefel worked for Western Massachusetts Legal Services (WMLS) for over 23 years before the program joined with Legal Assistance Corporation of Central Massachusetts to form Community Legal Aid in 2011. While working for WMLS, Jan served as a staff attorney providing assistance to elders with Older Americans Act funding from local home care agencies. In this capacity she was the recipient of the Franklin County Home Care Corporation Area Agency on Aging’s Quinn-Manwell-Cevasco Elder Advocacy Award in 2004 for her service to elders in need of legal representation. She also staffed the Housing Court Intervention Project, where she assisted tenants with their eviction cases. Jan assumed the position of Senior Supervising Attorney for the Benefits, Elder and Employment Unit at CLA in 2011. She first joined legal services after completing a clerkship with the New Hampshire Superior Court in 1985 when she was hired as a staff attorney for the newly-funded Medicare Advocacy Project at Greater Boston Legal Services.
