Pro Bono Spotlight: Pavel Bespalko
Attorney Pavel Bespalko joined Community Legal Aid’s (CLA) Pro Bono panel during the height of the pandemic in 2020. Based in Boston, Attorney Bespalko aimed to make an impact outside of the Boston metropolis, and the remote opportunities established during the pandemic made that possible. With a background in business litigation, Attorney Bespalko joined CLA’s consumer debt panel, and became a frequent volunteer for CLA’s Worcester District Court Small Claims Lawyer for the Day program. This remote program is a collaborative pro bono project with the Worcester County Bar Association (WCBA), where volunteer attorneys provide representation in court to low-income litigants facing debt collection disputes. Through this program, Attorney Bespalko has assisted at least 27 low-income debtors in court, many of whom are elderly or on disability, with negotiating settlements, dismissing claims, and reaching payment plans that litigants can actually afford. In doing so, he has made a tremendous impact in alleviating the stress and financial devastation to those who would otherwise not understand their rights and the viable options in resolving these disputes.
In addition to direct client work, Attorney Bespalko feels passionate about spreading the word of the importance of pro bono service to the legal community. In April 2023, Attorney Bespalko served as a panelist on a Pro Bono Seminar: Bridging the Access to Justice Gap with Pro Bono, sponsored by CLA and the WCBA. Attorney Beslpalko shared his experiences in helping CLA clients have a voice in court and the positive impact pro bono service has on the lives of many.
Attorney Bespalko earned his Juris Doctor (cum laude) from New England College of Law. He also earned his B.A. in Political Science from Brandeis and his B.A. in Jurisprudence with honors from International University of Moscow. More recently, Attorney Bespalko earned his MBA from Columbia Business School.
Attorney Bespalko is the founder of Tricorne & Co., where he represents clients from all over the Northeastern seaboard from Boston to New York to Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, and other states and countries. He has over fifteen years of experience in all facets of in-house and law firm business practice from corporate work to litigation.
Previously, Attorney Bespalko served as general counsel of a diversified asset management company with holdings in consumer banking, premium alcohol, and insurance in Moscow, Russia. His prior work experience includes positions as senior international litigation counsel at a global aluminum conglomerate and a partner at a litigation boutique in Boston, Massachusetts.
Thank you, Attorney Bespalko, for your time and continuous dedication to pro bono work!
