GREENFIELD – The city of Greenfield has received $925,000 in Community Development Block Grant funding to support community initiatives.
The grant is a federal program that provides money to states and localities for economic and community development. The funding is geared toward supporting and strengthening local communities for people of low or moderate income.
“This CDBG funding round will leave a lasting impact on Greenfield,” said Mayor Virginia “Ginny” Desorgher in a statement.
She thanked CDBG coordinator Anna Oltman and the Community and Economic Development Department for handling the application.
“I am proud that the funds effectively address a variety of important issues in our community,” Desorgher said.
The money will go towards housing rehabilitation, water main replacement and microenterprise assistance for small businesses. Also, $185,000 will be distributed to social service programs, including Community Legal Aid’s Homelessness Prevention Project and the Center for Human Development’s Greenfield Elder Wellness Program.
