Healey nominates pair for Probate & Family Court

Gov. Maura T. Healey has nominated a New Bedford solo and Worcester civil legal aid attorney to become Probate & Family Court judges.
Lt. Gov. Kim Driscoll announced the nominations of Timothy Horan of New Bedford and Lyonel Jean-Pierre Jr. of Worcester at the Governor’s Council‘s Sept. 10 meeting.
Horan and Jean-Pierre would join 14 judges Healey has already appointed to the Probate & Family Court.
Jean-Pierre Jr. has been working in Worcester as managing attorney for Community Legal Aid (CLA) since 2022, according to his LinkedIn. He obtained a law degree from the Cardozo School of Law at Yeshiva University, after which he was a fellow with Prisoners’ Legal Rights.
He spent nine years as a staff attorney with CLA and two years at a private firm before a four-year stint as a clinical instructor at the Harvard Legal Aid Bureau.
Horan has owned a solo general practice firm for nearly nine years that handles probate and family law matters, criminal, civil and administrative litigation, estate planning, personal injury.
For more than 12 years, he was a partner at Horan McLean & Horan. He previously worked as a health care fraud investigator and prosecutor at the Division of Professional Licensure and as an advocate and analyst for the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office. His LinkedIn says he received his juris doctor from the New England School of Law.
The Governor’s Council has scheduled interviews with both nominees for Sept. 24.
