Legal Assistance Corporation of Central Massachusetts (LACCM) announced today that its television show “Legal Assistance for Worcester” will premiere on Monday, April 23, 2007 at 10:00 p.m. on WCCA (channel 13) in Worcester. LACCM created the half-hour weekly television show in order to help educate the public about the organization and the legal services it offers, as well as to provide general information about civil legal issues.
Each week, a new show will air on Monday at 10:00 p.m., with subsequent airings on Thursday at 8:00 p.m. and Friday at 10:00 a.m. In addition to airing on Worcester cable channel 13, the show can also be seen on WCCA’s website (http://www.wccatv.com/stream) during the same times that it airs on television. Production of the show was made possible by the Production Facilitation Award, which grants up to one year of production assistance provided by WCCA to help new producers start a television show.
“Legal Assistance for Worcester” is hosted by LACCM staff member Sarah Loy, and each week it features LACCM advocates who will discuss a particular area of the law and how it may affect the show’s audience and other members of the community. The first episode’s guest will be Attorney Faye Rachlin, who is the Managing Attorney of LACCM, and the discussion will focus on tenants’ rights. Some topics that will be featured on future episodes include the financial exploitation of elders, housing discrimination, disability issues, family law for victims of domestic violence and more.
Jonathan Mannina, Executive Director of Legal Assistance, said, “We are excited about this opportunity to get the word out to members of the community about the work that LACCM does. We hope that viewers will find the show to be informative and interesting.”
