2015 Celebrate Legal Aid Event a Great Success!
On November 12, 2015, Community Legal Aid honored all those that make civil legal aid possible with a Celebrate Legal Aid event in Holyoke.
The Honorable John Greaney recognized two outstanding attorneys for their pro bono commitments: Charles R. Casartello was presented with the Legal Aid Champion award, and David J. Martel with the Pro Bono Publico award.
With over 150 attendees, members of the private bar, judiciary, legal aid staff, volunteers and community partners enjoyed an evening in the spectacular setting of Mill 1 at Open Square, a down-town industrial mill building converted into office space and event suites. Superb food was provided by Kevin Sahagian of Electric Café & Catering.
Guest speakers were: the Honorable Gail Perlman (CLA board of directors), Justice Francis X. Spina of the Supreme Judicial Court, and Senator Elizabeth Warren, who joined by video remarks. All speakers described the vital importance of civil legal aid services towards providing justice for all, regardless of how much money you have or where you live.
