Community Legal Aid Attorney Julie Dick Elected to Executive Board of the Women’s Bar Association of Massachusetts

Community Legal Aid, the non-profit organization that provides free legal services to low-income and elderly residents of Central and Western Massachusetts, is pleased to announce that Staff Attorney Julie Dick was elected as to the Executive Board (Secretary) for the Women’s Bar Association of Massachusetts (WBA) for the 2021-2022 year.

The WBA’s Board represents varied legal experience, diversity, and a steadfast commitment to advocating on behalf of women’s issues. Said Dick, “I am thrilled to step into the role of Secretary of the Women’s Bar Association. My work as a Staff Attorney at Community Legal Aid directly ties to the ways our laws and legal system impact women and their families, and our civil justice system is based on the fundamental value that everyone is equal under the law. Too often, however, meaningful access to justice is closely tied to whether a litigant can afford an attorney. It is an honor to work alongside this association of women lawyers in furtherance of the WBA’s stated purpose to achieve the full and equal participation of women in every aspect of society.”

Raised in Canada and in Ohio, Attorney Dick earned her B.A. from The Ohio State University, where she majored in political science and classical humanities with a minor in linguistics, and her J.D. from Ohio State Moritz College of Law. For her third year of law school, Attorney Dick studied at Harvard Law School as a visiting student. During law school, she served as a law clerk with the Juvenile Public Defenders office in Franklin County, Ohio, and as a legal intern with GLAD Legal Advocates and Defenders in Boston. Before joining Community Legal Aid in 2017, she handled pro bono (volunteer) family law and guardianship cases through the WBA and Volunteer Lawyers Project, and received the Meg Connolly MVP Award from Senior Partners for Justice in February 2017.

In 2019, Attorney Dick was elected to the WBA Board of Directors and served a two-year term as a Regional Director representing Central Massachusetts. She is also a member of the Worcester County Bar Association, Massachusetts LGBTQ Bar, and Massachusetts Bar Association. In her free time, Attorney Dick enjoys baking, being active, reading, and spending time with her dog.
