Community Legal Aid Welcomes Amy Corbett Dion As Senior Supervising Attorney for Education and Employment Units
Community Legal Aid, a non-profit organization that provides free legal services to low-income and elderly residents of Central and Western Massachusetts, is pleased to announce that Amy Corbett Dion has joined the organization as Senior Supervising Attorney for its Education and Employment Units.
In the last year, Community Legal Aid has expanded its education and employment advocacy to respond to the needs of low-income families and workers during the COVID-19 crisis. Community Legal Aid’s free assistance is available to workers who have lost their jobs, had hours reduced, or are temporarily out of work due to the COVID-19 pandemic, or who have questions regarding working conditions during the pandemic. Similarly, Community Legal Aid is assisting many students who are struggling to get the resources they need to thrive in remote learning environments. The statewide closure of public schools in mid-March due to COVID-19 and ensuing transition to remote learning have presented unprecedented challenges for students, especially those with special needs, and their families. In this time of confusion and stress for families concerned about their children’s rights, Community Legal Aid is eager to respond to the increased need for advocacy on their behalf.
Attorney Dion is excited to lead these areas, saying, “I am thrilled to join the team at Community Legal Aid and to work on behalf of low-income individuals in Central and Western Massachusetts. I look forward to working on education and employment issues for our clients to help ensure educational access for students and appropriate income and enforcement of rights for workers.”
Attorney Dion comes to Community Legal Aid with almost a decade of experience as a staff attorney at Greater Hartford Legal Aid, where she primarily practiced education and employment law. She has also worked in private practice as an education attorney, and worked most recently at UMass Amherst in the Equal Opportunity Office. A graduate of Boston College, Dion received her law degree from the University of Connecticut School of Law. A Connecticut native, Dion now resides in Sturbridge, MA, where she lives with her husband, two children, and two rescue dogs. In her free time, she can usually be found at the rink watching her kids play hockey.
