Projects & Opportunities
Community Legal Aid offers a diverse array of pro bono opportunities for attorneys. Whether you’re looking to take on a full representation case or you’re interested in our court-based projects, we’ll help match you with a program that fits your level of experience, geographic location, and time commitment.
CLA coordinates the largest pro bono referral program in Central and Western Massachusetts. Since its inception in 1981, this program has referred thousands of low-income clients to lawyers in the private bar who represent those clients free of charge. With an extensive panel of attorneys throughout our five-county service area, volunteer attorneys accept cases in the following areas:
- Advance Directives/Wills/Health Care Proxies
- Bankruptcy/Debt Collection
- Divorce/Family Law
- Guardianship of an Adult
- Landlord-Tenant/Evictions
- SSI/SSDI

We understand that it takes time, dedication, and resources to do pro bono work. In collaboration with the local bar associations, CLA offers several Lawyer for the Day programs to low-income litigants who are facing legal challenges in court. These regularly-scheduled programs are offered in Hampden, Hampshire, and Worcester County courthouses and are designed to make volunteering as streamlined and supportive as possible, with YOU, the volunteer, in mind.
Please see our calendar for details on these programs.
