Governor Healey Nominates Lyonel Jean-Pierre Jr. and Timothy Horan to Probate and Family Court in Massachusetts

In a move aimed at fortifying the bench of the Probate and Family Court, Governor Maura Healey has put forth the nominations of two seasoned legal professionals, Lyonel Jean-Pierre, Jr. and Timothy Horan. Once vetted by the Governor’s Council, these nominees could bring their significant legal expertise to the judicial system that touches upon the sensitivities of domestic life.

“Both Attorney Jean-Pierre Jr and Attorney Horan will bring a wealth of knowledge to the Probate and Family Court, and the bench will benefit from their unique perspectives and deep understanding of the law,” stated Governor Maura Healey, as reported by the official Massachusetts Government news release. The appointments underscore the administration’s commitment to enhancing the quality and diversity of experience in a court that deals with life-altering family issues.

The Probate and Family Court is tasked with the responsibility of resolving family and probate legal matters, a role that demands both legal acumen and sensitivity. This court’s mandate encompasses a broad spectrum of cases, ranging from divorces and child support to wills and estates, and it strives to do so with fairness and respect.

In their respective careers, the nominees have shown a dedication to public service and justice, each with a strong background in family law. Timothy Horan’s 21 years in legal practice have equipped him with experiences that span across probate and family law, as well as criminal and civil matters. On the other hand, Lyonel Jean-Pierre, Jr. is at the helm of Community Legal Aid in Worcester, managing attorneys who serve indigent clients. His resumé also includes a stint supervising law students at the Harvard Legal Aid Bureau.

If confirmed, Jean-Pierre and Horan would join the ranks of 14 other Associate Justices appointed by Governor Healey who are serving on the Probate and Family Court, strengthening the court’s capacity to deliver justice.
