What is Medical-Legal Partnership? Community Legal Aid received a two-year grant from the Legal Services Corporation to build a medical-legal partnership with UMass Memorial Health Care. The partnership will provide legal services to low-income patients who are receiving care through an innovative new primary care model being implemented at three primary care sites at UMass Memorial Medical Center.
Social and economic stressors impede a family’s ability to care for children with disabilities and navigate systems with which they interact. These stressors also greatly impact the health of low-income, minority and other marginalized communities and interfere with clinical providers’ ability to effectively and efficiently improve the health of their most vulnerable patients. Through the partnership, clinical providers who have been trained to screen for health-harming legal issues will refer families to Community Legal Aid. We invite you, a private bar attorney, to join us in addressing the health-harming legal needs of our community by taking on a guardianship case for a youth with capacity-related special health care needs who is transitioning to adulthood.
Please feel free to share this invitation with any colleagues who may be interested. This will be the third in a series of Medical-Legal Partnership trainings offered by Community Legal Aid. Please look forward to upcoming invitations!
