North Adams: Funding supports new housing assistance project

Community Legal Aid has received funding to launch the North County Housing Legal Assistance Project. The new project will expand Community Legal Aid’s existing housing legal services to offer specialized assistance to residents with a history of substance use disorder.

The goal of the project, which launched on Dec. 1, 2025, is to help those in recovery achieve stable housing. The project will focus on combating illegal housing discrimination, providing stabilization for those experiencing housing insecurity, offering assistance to individuals with criminal record sealing and expunging, and providing educational outreach to area residents and community organizations.

Funding for the project was provided through an initiative by Berkshire Regional Planning Commission, Northern Berkshire HEAL Coalition, and Berkshire Health Systems to reduce opioid overdoses and other related harms from substance use in the northern Berkshire region.
