State legal services programs on March 5 launched the HomeCorps Homelessness Prevention Project, aided by a $400,000 Crisis Response and Innovation Grant from the Attorney General’s Office.

The project, headed by the Massachusetts Law Reform Institute, will provide free representation to low-income tenants and landlords in certain eviction cases in Worcester Housing Court and Framingham District Court.

MetroWest Legal Services, the Massachusetts Justice Project and Community Legal Aid will implement and monitor the project.
The project is designed so that those facing eviction can obtain services and representation in Housing Court or District Court. Additionally, the project will collect data on eviction cases, including the types, number and cost of providing representation, to measure the efficacy of the project.
