Pro Bono Spotlight: Attorney Justin Raphaelson

A volunteer with Community Legal Aid (CLA) since 2017, Attorney Justin Raphaelson has enthusiastically brought passion and dedication to his pro bono work.

A 2013 graduate of Clark University and 2016 graduate of New England Law-Boston, Attorney Raphaelson is an associate at Raphaelson & Raphaelson in Worcester, MA. He practices in the areas of Land Use, Landlord/Tenant, and Consumer Protection.

Though Attorney Raphaelson primarily focuses on housing law, he is able to bring creativity and flexibility to his work in order to meet his clients’ needs. As one of many examples of his work, in July 2020 he accepted a referral involving a disabled elder veteran who was currently residing in a veteran’s shelter. At the time of the referral, the veteran’s subsidized housing application had been denied due to incorrect entries on the client’s criminal record. Unless the court docket could be quickly corrected, the client faced homelessness.

Attorney Raphaelson jumped in to assist with this time-sensitive matter and was able to successfully advocate for a corrected docket. A CLA attorney was then able to appeal the Worcester Housing Authority denial, and the client obtained secure housing.

Attorney Raphaelson’s willingness to act quickly and decisively despite the complications presented by the COVID-19 pandemic meant the client could access comfortable and safe housing – housing that is essential in the maintenance of his underlying health conditions.
