Pro Bono Spotlight: Attorney Susan M. Williams

Attorney Susan M. Williams is a solo practitioner concentrating her practice in debtor representation with consumer bankruptcy law and real estate. Attorney Williams established her law firm in 1999 (Susan M. Williams, LLC) and maintains offices in Enfield and Hartford, Connecticut.  Attorney Williams is licensed to practice law in all state and local courts in Connecticut and Massachusetts. She is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for Connecticut, the U.S. District Court for Massachusetts, and the United States Supreme Court. Attorney Williams earned her B.S. degree from Westfield State University and her J.D. degree from Western New England University School of Law.

Attorney Williams has a strong record of pro bono service. In addition to volunteering for Connecticut Legal Services, Attorney Williams has been a frequent volunteer for Community Legal Aid (CLA) since 2014, where she assists low-income clients seeking bankruptcy relief.  Additionally, Attorney Williams currently serves on the Pro Bono Legal Services Advisory Committee for the United States Bankruptcy Court District of Massachusetts and is a member of the Pro Bono Honor Roll for the United States Bankruptcy Court District of Massachusetts. In recognition of these efforts, Attorney Williams was the recipient of the 2020 Honorable Anthony V. DeMayo Pro Bono Award, and the Senior Partners for Justice MVP Award presented by CLA in October 2023.

With over 25 years of bankruptcy law experience, Attorney Williams and her legal team have earned a reputation as a competent and effective law firm who take the time to listen to their clients’ concerns and develop comprehensive solutions for their clients. This holds true for her pro bono clients as well. In a recent case, a CLA bankruptcy client, who had been suffering from significant health issues and faced a financial crisis because of it, reached out to CLA to offer her appreciation for Attorney William’s support. Over the course of a year, Attorney Williams had worked with the client, filed a Chapter 7 bankruptcy, and achieved a total discharge for the client.
